STOKR Bike Ride FULL!
Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River bike ride in May
February 21, 2007

In the fastest registration fill-up yet, the 13th annual Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River (STOKR) bike ride has already filled the allotted 400 slots for participating riders.

Last year STOKR filled in ten days after the registration form became available. This year STOKR filled in just seven days. Organizers even bumped up the number of riders able to participate from 350 to 400 riders for 2007.

“If folks have NOT mailed their registration by now (February 21), they won't get in,” said organizer Susie Rice. They will start e-mailing out confirmations on Thursday.

The Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River is a two-day event, always held on the second weekend in May. The event is a fundraiser for the Kootenai Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity. Money raised is used to build homes for needy families. It takes two STOKRs to build one Habitat for Humanity home.

This year, twelve riders will be given the opportunity to actually work on the Chapter’s 7th house in the Kootenai Valley. Riders were able to designate on their registration form if they were interested. Six will work on Friday, May 11th, and six will work on Monday, May 14th. Anyone with an extra day to spare is welcome to volunteer!

Proceeds raised from STOKR will be matched by the Lincoln County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. These dollars stay in the Kootenai Valley to help build simple, affordable housing for low-income families.
