A head-on collision involving two pick-ups occurred on Highway 2 south of Libby on March 3 at 10:38 a.m. The accident claimed the lives of three occupants, from Libby, in the east-bound vehicle and the driver of the west-bound vehicle, from Kalispell, which crossed the center line according to the Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred near mile marker 59. Traffic was halted on the highway in both directions for about two hours as first responders worked to transport the driver of the east-bound pickup by ALERT helicopter to Kalispell, where she later died; and to clear the highway of the wreckage.
Obituaries published on the Schnackenberg and Riddle Funeral Home web site list three Libby residents matching the date of the accident: Bengie Jessica Hansen, Stuart Cannon, and Judith Cannon. They have not been publicly officially identified, nor has the driver from Kalispell.
