A ceremony at the Libby Cemetery was held on Veterans Day, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. in honor of those who have served our country. Members of American Legion Post 97 conducted the ceremony with a short service, a rifle volley, and to play taps. Other programs were held at the high school and at Riverfront Park.
The significance of 11/11 at 11:00 a.m. came about when fighting ceased (the Armistice of 1918) between the Allied nations and Germany during World War I. The Treaty of Versailles was later signed on June 28, 1919, to officially end the war, but November 11 continues to be the official day of remembrance of our nation's heroes.
