Troy Library October events
by Lincoln County Public Library – Troy
October 7, 2011

The Lincoln County Public Library in Troy will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of October. All events are free and open to the public.

The Lincoln County Libraries in Troy, Eureka and Libby will be closed on Saturday, October 8 for Columbus Day.

The Troy Friends of the Library will meet on Wednesday, October 12 at 1 pm. All are welcome.

In October, the Troy Writers’ Group will have two meetings, the first on Wednesday, October 5 at 6:30 pm and the second on Wednesday, October 19 at 6:30 pm. Both meetings will be held at the Troy Library. The group welcomes writers of all ages, but please be advised that the group will not censor anything. New members are welcome and should contact Stacy at the Troy Library, 295-4040, for more information and to pick up copies of the stories being discussed.

The Troy Library’s Book Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, October 20 at 5 pm. This month, the group will discuss One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus. Told through the journal entries of May Dodd, this novel is an American western with an unusual twist. This is an imaginative fictional account of the participation of May Dodd in the controversial "Brides for Indians" program, a clandestine U.S. government-sponsored program intended to instruct "savages" in the ways of civilization and to assimilate the Indians into white culture through the offspring of these unions. Books are available at the library for 14-day checkout.

On Friday, October 21 at 6 pm, the Troy Library will be showing the 1993 Disney live-action film Hocus Pocus (Rated PG, 93 minutes), starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. Halloween night will never be the same after three 17th century witches are accidentally conjured up in present-day Salem where they brew a hilarious cauldron of mischief and mayhem.

On Thursday, October 27 at 5:30 pm, librarians will give a presentation on how to get an email account. Different email options will be discussed and a demonstration will be given of obtaining and working with a Yahoo! email account. Laptops will be provided for hands-on practice.

The Troy Library will host a Halloween party for patrons of all ages on Saturday, October 29 from 11am-1:30pm. Refreshments will be served, crafts will be made, and all are encouraged to wear their costumes.

The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries. This month, Amnesty Day is Friday, October 28. Any overdue materials, except interlibrary loans, returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived, regardless of degree of lateness.

For more upcoming library events, please view the calendar on the Lincoln County Public Libraries website, www.lincolncountylibraries.com/calendar/Announcements.html, or call the Troy Library, 406-295-4040.
