Flathead Valley Community College’s Lincoln County Campus will host an informational meeting on its 2012 study abroad programs September 27 at 4 p.m. in room 127 of the Lincoln County Campus in Libby. The meeting will introduce the benefits of studying abroad and will provide information on the college’s three study abroad programs that will be offered in 2012.

The college will offer its fourth Semester in Venice, Italy, from January 14 to April 12, 2012. Under the leadership of FVCC Art Instructor John Rawlings, the program will provide students 18 years of age and older the opportunity to earn up to 22 college credits by participating in a program of study that encompasses language, art, theatre and Italian culture. This year, the college is offering three $4,000 scholarships to students who require financial assistance in order to participate in the program.

The college also is introducing a new Carnevale class for interested students who are unable to participate in the entire semester-long program. The class will take place January 31 through February 28, 2012. The class will include the History of Theatre in Venice class instructed by David Ackroyd; a one-week "History and Culture of Venice" class taught by Rawlings; guided day trips to Verona, Vicenza, Bassano, Balsano and Padua; an opera at Teatro La Fenice; a production at the Goldoni Theatre; a Vivaldi concert; a visit to a mask making studio; a live interpretation of "The Merchant of Venice" with Ackroyd and Rawlings; and all Carnevale events.

FVCC also is offering its first cultural immersion program in Ecuador over’s the college’s winter intersession. Students will venture from the Galapagos Islands to the Amazon Basin January 3-15, 2012. Students will study conservation ecology and have the option of studying cultural anthropology for the opportunity to earn up to six college credits. The deadline to secure a place in the program with a deposit is October 21.

Over spring break, the college will return to London, England, for its second cultural immersion program March 23 through April 1, 2012. Students who participate will earn three college credits as they study William Shakespeare’s plays and poems. FVCC English and Theatre Arts Instructor Brian Bechtold will bring his experience of teaching Shakespeare and British literature for over 35 years and his service on the Shakespeare Oxford Society Board of Trustees and Editorial Board to his role of leading the tour.
