Miller Lake Dam breach concerns resolved

Some anxious moments over the weekend South of Libby at Miller Lake Dam. Reports of the Miller Lake Dam breaching came into the Sheriff's Office Friday around 3pm. The dam was reportedly leaking and concern arose of a potential failure.

Residents of Silver Butte, Arabian Lane, and Highway 2 between mile marker 54 and 62 were notified of possible evacuation. Emergency notification started at 5:15, but the phone message went out prematurely.

Two dump trucks of sand, several hundred sand bags, 10 to 15 volunteers to sand bag were ordered. Two large pieces of heavy duty plastic tarp ten feet wide and 20 to 30 foot long were used to create a diversion canal as a spillway.

The erosion has been stopped by 8pm.

There is no immediate further danger of failure.
