A Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train collided with a vehicle at the crossing of the haul road at the 8-mile marker 15 miles east of Libby.

The accident occurred at 9am Sunday morning (April 3, 2011). According to the sheriff's office report, the driver of the vehicle was able to escape prior to impact, and the dogs inside the vehicle survived the collision.

According to Gus Malonas of BNSF, the vehicle was struck by a BNSF grain train traveling from Great Falls, Montana to Pasco. No one in the vehicle or the BNSF train crew was injured. Two locomotives were damaged, set out, and are under repair. Additional locomotives were brought to the train for necessary power. A two-hour delay to the train resulted.
