April events at the Troy Library
by Lincoln County Public Library - Troy
April 1, 2011

The Lincoln County Public Library in Troy will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of April. All events are free and open to the public.

The Troy Friends of the Library will meet on Wednesday, April 13 at 1 pm. All are welcome.

The libraries in Libby, Troy, and Eureka will be closed to the public on Friday, April 8 for a staff in-service day. Periodic in-service days allow staff to maintain the quality of service provided despite recent budget cuts.

Every Thursday in April kids and families are welcome to attend the Troy Library’s after-school program. The programs are held from 4:15 pm until 5 pm and will continue on Thursday afternoons throughout the school year.

In honor of National Poetry Month, the Troy Writing Workshop Group will suspend fiction and non-fiction writing to work on poems at the two meetings on April 6 and April 20. Both meetings begin 6:30 pm. New members are always welcome. Please bring one or two original poems to share and discuss. The Lincoln County Public Library Poetry contest theme this year is "boundaries." Bring in your themed poem for feedback and then submit it to the contest.

The Troy Library’s Book Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, April 21 at 5 pm. This month, the group will discuss the novel, Room by Emma Donoghue. Narrator Jack and his mother, who was kidnapped seven years earlier when she was a 19-year-old college student, celebrate his fifth birthday. They live in a tiny, 11-foot-square soundproofed cell in a converted shed in the kidnapper's yard. The sociopath, whom Jack has dubbed Old Nick, visits at night, grudgingly doling out food and supplies. But Ma, as Jack calls her, proves to be resilient and resourceful and attempts a nail-biting escape. Books are available at the library for 14-day checkout.

The Troy Library’s film series, "You Could Have Read the Book", continues on Friday, April 22 at 6 pm with the 2010 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Rated PG-13, 146 minutes). Based on the book by J.K. Rowling, Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the horcruxes, the secret to Voldemort's immortality and destruction.

Come to the Troy Library on Thursday, April 28 at 7 pm for the program, "Spring Into Health." Sharon Tucker will again share her knowledge of natural herbal health remedies. This year, Ms. Tucker will focus on identifying and working with allergies, fungus, molds, and mildews in the environment. Her discussion will also include ear candling, protective nose sprays, bee pollen, and more.

The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries. This month, Amnesty Day is Friday, April 29. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.

For more upcoming library events, please view the calendar on the Lincoln County Public Libraries website, www.lincolncountylibraries.com/calendar/Announcements.html, or call the Troy Library, 295-4040.
