‘Step For Health’ Fitness Inspiration Program
Free 5-Week health program open to all residents
by Montana Athletic Club
October 7, 2010

On behalf of all program sponsors, we invite you to join us in the fun of Libby’s "Step For Health" Fitness Inspiration Program.

This five-week program, which is sponsored by the Montana Athletic Club (MAC), St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, and the Northwest Community Health Center, is free and open to all residents. Participants will rack their daily steps on a pedometer, and set a weekly step goal that’s appropriate for them. Those successfully meeting their goals in the "Step For Health" program, which runs from Mon., Oct. 18th to Sun., Nov. 21st will be entered into the drawings for prizes of MAC memberships and cholesterol screenings from St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.

The aim of the program is to encourage residents to experience the high return of energy, happiness and the immense cost savings of better health that regular exercise brings. Our bodies are an absolutely amazing gift that is a privilege to care for. With 2/3 of adults and 1/3 of the youth either overweight or obese in this country, we have a health crisis. But with regular exercise and healthy food choices we can solve this problem. As adults the best way to help our youth is to set an example of good fitness. We invite you to join us in this mission.

Participants may complete the program either individually or as a team. We suggest family members, co-workers, and neighbors participate together. MAC will award a massage and sauna pass to the team leader who has the most team members completing the contest, and an additional prize drawing will be held for teams completing the program together.

To encourage the fun of exercising together, each time participants walk or run together, everyone in the group may enter the drawing for a massage and sauna pass.

To determine an effective step goal, participants should first wear a pedometer to establish their current step level. For long term health and reduced chronic disease risk, 10,000 steps a day are recommended. But participants with a step count currently below 10,000 steps per day should increase gradually by adding 20% of their step level or 500 daily steps each week. Participants who meet their goal for four of the five weeks of the program will be eligible for prizes.

Registration forms and record cards are available at all sponsor locations and on the MAC website at www.maclibby.com. Please submit registration forms to MAC by Monday, October 25th.
