Public demo of emergency communications June 26 – 27
Radio Hams from Libby area join in National Deployment
by Lincoln County Amateur Radio Group
June 10, 2010

Libby - On the weekend of June 26th and 27th Libby's ham radio hobbyists will join with thousands of other amateur radio operators across the country who will be practicing and demonstrating their emergency capabilities.

Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of ham radio operators providing critical communications during unexpected emergencies in towns and cities everywhere. Hams played a big role in the Haiti earthquake disaster. When trouble is brewing, amateur radio operators are often the first to provide rescuers and the outside world with critical information and communications.

On the weekend of June 26-27, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with members of the Lincoln County Amateur Radio Group and see for themselves what the amateur radio service is about. During this annual national event, called "Field Day," using only emergency power supplies, local ham operators will be showing communications techniques and holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities.

The public is invited to this event at any hour day or night. Field Day will be held at McGrade School on Farm-to-Market Road for the 24 hours running from noon Saturday, June 26th through noon Sunday, June 27th.
