The second in command of the EPA, Lisa Jackson's number-two guy, made a brief appearance in Libby Thursday, Oct. 22.

Mathy Stanislaus arrived quietly in town a few hours before his scheduled meeting with the County/City Health Board. He toured the Kootenai Industrial Park before the meeting. The community and health board message to Stanislaus was fairly clear: Slow down the Record of Decision process and speed up the information about the toxicity of Libby amphibole. But that probably isn't going to happen. Using the EPA mantra of breaking exposure pathways, the intent of EPA to pursue the Record of Decision on their preset timetable is very, very clear.

According to EPA's Victor Kettlelapper, there will a public meeting the week of November 30th. That meeting will discuss the ongoing toxicity studies for Libby amphibole.

Stanislaus has two decades of working with environmental issues in the public and private sectors. His reputation is of one who pursues environmental justice.
