Six candidates are in the running Libby’s 2009 Nordicfest Junior Royalty, with the prince and princess selections to be announced at the coronation dinner on Friday, May 8.

The dinner will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall and will include a Scandinavian smorgasbord, no-host bar and raffle. Doors open at 6:30.

Following is some information about the candidates, in their own words:

Aja Barnett
I was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., and moved to Montana when I was 7. I am a 17-year-old junior at Libby High School.

I was employed by Ace Hardware during the summer and am hoping to return this summer. I have participated in various sports and events in my high school career, including track and soccer. I enjoy singing in my high school choir, and I am involved in the show choir known as the Cabinet Mountain Singers.

Some things that I engage in during my spare time are: hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, snowboarding, camping and swimming. After high school I plan to go into nursing or biology and I hope to attend the University of Montana.

Kaila Forster
I am a junior at Libby High School. I enjoy playing sports and being outside. I play soccer, participate in track and spend my free time snowboarding.
I am a member of the National Honor Society, the L Club and Business Professionals of America. I currently maintain a 3.5 GPA.

I hope to attend Pacific University in Fort Grove, Oregon or the University of Montana in Missoula for physical therapy. I am very determined and have aspirations to make the best for myself.

Matthew Nelson
I was born in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. I lived in Post Falls, Idaho, until the end of my sixth-grade year when my family moved to Libby and have lived here ever since.

My family includes my parents Norman and Barbara, younger brother Jesse, and dog Cocoa.

Levi Neubauer
I am 17 years old and am currently attending Libby High School as a junior. I like to challenge myself academically, and involve myself in as many extra curricular activities as possible.

I am the son of Kevin Neubauer and Teresa Johnston, both of Libby, and the grandson of Don and Bev Shaw, Bob Barnes and Donna Barnes, all of Libby.

I have been involved in numerous volunteer organizations for several years, and enjoy helping out whenever I can. I have been the class president for the past three years, I am involved in track, and have been employed at Save-Rite West for the past two years.

I like to hike, camp, and anything involving being outdoors. I plan on attending the University of Montana in the fall of 2010, majoring in biological sciences.

Chelsey Oedewaldt
I was born in Kalispell to Carol and Terry Oedewaldt and I have lived in Libby my entire life. My grandparents are Annette Oedewaldt who lives in Libby, and Joyce Dysart, who lives in Georgia.

I am involved with LHS tennis and golf. I am also involved with LHS in clubs such as National Honor Society, Student Council, and Business Professionals of America. In my spare time I like to swim, play tennis, listen to music and hang out with friends and family. I look forward to attending college somewhere in the Northwest.

Audra Poppen
I was born in Casper, Wyo. My family moved to Libby when I was 6. Libby has been a great place to grow up for myself as well as my two brothers and sister.

I have been involved in sports since an early age. My stepdad taught me soccer when I was 8, and I have played ever since. I earned a high school letter in that sport for three years as well as receiving awards in various other soccer competitions. I am also involved in Logger tennis and have lettered in that sport for two years and hope to receive another letter this spring.

I not only enjoy sports but I also enjoy being involved in many high school activities. I am a key member in planning various high school events and am on numerous committees including junior class representative on our student council and GREAT Committee, which attempts to bridge the gap between our school and the community. When not involved with sports and school I like to play guitar, make help jewelry, hunt and go horseback riding.

I plan on going to college at the University of Wyoming or U of M and majoring in teaching or engineering.
