Libby's Senior Citizen Center a place for all

Libby is home to many wonderful service and community organizations, and the Libby Senior Citizens Center is one such resource available to Libby's seniors. The center is open not only to seniors, however, but anyone in the community who enjoys the companionship of others and the convenience of a cooked meal.

The center is located at 206 East 2nd Street and is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

There is a small membership fee of $7.50/year, which helps support the center, and for this small fee, the center offers a variety of services for seniors, including:

* Home delivered meals, within a 6-mile radius, to those who are unable or uncomfortable leaving their home. Meals can also be picked up at the center.

* Ensure program for those who need supplemental dietary support (referral from a doctor or dietician required).

* Scheduled flu vaccinations provided by the Lincoln County Health Department.

* Blood pressure checks conducted by the Lincoln County Health Nurse.

* Monthly visits by a Veterans Administration Officer to assist veterans and their dependents with veterans benefits.

* Telephone reassurance service.

* Access to services needed such as assisted living, transportation, medical facilities, etc.

* Conference room and entire senior center rental for meetings or receptions.

Not only are many of these services available free of charge or at a reduced cost to seniors, but the center also offers meals, either lunch or dinner, Monday through Friday. Their meals are open to the community and the cost is reasonable for a delicious lunch or dinner complete with a well-stocked salad bar, dessert and beverage. All meals meet USDA/Council on Aging nutrition guidelines. Monthly menus are available at the center.

The seniors hold one major fundraiser per year, which is a $500 beef or cash raffle (going on now; drawing to be held November 11). Tickets are available at the center, and will be offered at various locations throughout town in the coming weeks.

Conveniently located in the same building is the Lincoln County Transportation Service (293-8024 or 877-745-7433), which provides public transportation to anyone within the county needing transportation to medical appointments, shopping, or wherever a person needs to go. Fees vary; call the Transportation Service for price quotes.

If you're a senior who hasn't yet checked out what the senior center has to offer, they welcome you to visit and would love to show you around. If you're not a senior but would like to visit, have a meal, or maybe volunteer your time, you would also certainly be welcomed. For more information, call Dedi at the center at 406-293-7222.
