Carnival coming to town for Logger Days

The carnival will be returning to Libby’s Logger Days for the event’s 50th anniversary June 26-29.

Logger Days events will be again be held in the area around the Memorial Center. The Wild West Shows carnival will be in Libby from 5 p.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Sunday and will be set up on the vacant lot at the corner of Eighth Street and Montana Avenue, said Pam Peppenger of Kootenai Kiwanis.

The water fight for kids and adults will kick things off as usual on Thursday evening. On Friday night, after the Bull of the Woods contest, Provider Pals will be sponsoring a concert by rising country music star Patricia Ryan and Dakota Country.

“She’s like way cutting edge right now,” Peppenger said. “She’s got a video out, and she’s just about to make the big jump.”

In addition to the parade, which will be “as fabulous as ever,” Peppenger said, Saturday’s events the youth lip sync contest and logging competitions. Some of the old competitions like the truck-wrapping contest will be brought back this year, said Kiwanian Debi Davidson.

“We’re gearing up to make it an outstanding, phenomenal, memorable 50th anniversary,” Davidson said.

Applications are currently being accepted for a revamped Logger Days Queen contest.
Candidates can pick up applications at the Libby High School guidance office. Applications are due by Friday, April 11.

Four to six candidates will be selected, and they will compete for a $500 scholarship through a process that includes criteria such as school and community activities, academic standing and an essay as well as the sale of Logger Days admission buttons.
