Cub Creek & Little Spar Trail now open
Savage Mountain Fire trail closure lifted
August 29, 2007

Cub Creek Trail # 324 and Little Spar Trail # 143 on the Three Rivers Ranger District on the Kootenai National Forest are now open. These trails were closed due to the Savage Mountain fire burning in the Spar Lake area.

The fire behavior has decreased due to some rain in the area and because of decreased daylight. If you are hiking these trails, you will still see smoke in the fire area. Please be careful while hiking in the area because there may be rolling debris and snags.

Remember that Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect on all private, state and federal lands in Lincoln County.

Stage 2 restrictions prohibit any open burning, including campfires. Smoking is allowed only in areas cleared of all flammable materials. Motorized vehicles must stay on designated roads and trails. Operating an internal combustion engine, welding, or using explosives is prohibited between 1 p.m. and 1 a.m.

For more information please contact the Three Rivers Ranger District at 406-295-4693.
