Heavy Snow Warning through 5 PM Tuesday
10-18 inches new snow possible

The National Weather Service out of Missoula has issued a Heavy Snow Warning for the Kootenai/Cabinet/Lower Clark Fork Regions for from 2 PM Monday afternoon until 5 PM Tuesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

A strong Pacific storm system will begin to produce heavy snowfall over the mountains of Western Montana and North Central Idaho beginning this afternoon, lasting into Wednesday. Areas most affected by this system will be the higher elevations and West facing slopes. In addition. breezy winds will cause localized blowing & drifting snow, especially near Glacier National Park. This system is expected to impact all mountain passes through Wednesday.

10 to 18 inches of snow are expected above 3000 feet by Tuesday afternoon. Below 3000 feet local accumulations up to 6 inches are expected. In addition, occasionally breezy Southwest winds will create locally blowing and drifting snow. Interstate 90 from Lookout Pass southeast to Saint Regis will be among the areas most impacted by this system.

A Heavy Snow Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. A cell phone can also be very valuable to call for assistance while on the road.
