(Libby) - Late last week, Donald W. Molloy of the U.S. District Court in Missoula decided in favor of the Kootenai Forest on nine timber sale and restoration projects.

The nine challenged projects include the Bristow Area Restoration Project, the Fortine Project, the West Troy Project, the Pipestone Timber Sale and Restoration Project, the Lower Big Creek Project, the South McSwede Timber Sale and Restoration Project, the Alder Creek Project, the Cow Creek Project, and the McSutton Project.

Kootenai Forest Supervisor Paul Bradford said, “It’s a great win for us. Our folks have been working hard on individual projects and this decision affirms their hard work. The credit goes to folks doing good project design and analysis work and supporting the effort to defend this good work.”

Each of these projects proposed a number of land management activities including commercial timber sales, pre-commercial thinning, natural fuels reduction, road decommissioning, and improvement of road drainage.

Forest officials are hopeful that implementation of these projects will begin very soon. It is unclear whether the plaintiffs will appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
