Libby North Corridor Study Oct. 17
Improvements needed for Hwy 567/Pipe Creek Road
October 4, 2006

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) invites the public to attend a presentation and discussion about the Libby North Corridor Study on Tuesday, October 17 in Libby. The meeting will be from 5-8 pm in the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the existing conditions of Highway 567/Pipe Creek Road and to determine if transportation improvements are needed. The project limits are the 14-mile stretch from the Bobtail Cutoff Road to Turner Mountain Ski Resort.

MDT will give a presentation, talk about the planning study, and give an overview of the proposal. While funding is always an issue to do any actual roadwork, MDT said other factors include the cost to do the environmental document. The road goes through a grizzly bear recovery area and also may impact endangered bull trout, which are factors that affect the cost of any roadwork.

MDT is accepting written comments at the meeting, as well as by mail or online. Please indicate that the comments are for the North Libby Corridor Study. For more information about this project, contact MDT Project Manager Tom Kahle at 406-444-9211.
