Spay and Neuter Clinic
In Eureka October 7- 8
September 8, 2006

There will be a "No-Cost Spay & Neuter Pet Care Event" at the Eureka Elementary School on October 7th and 8th. "This is a great opportunity for people to get their pets altered and to help decrease the serious problem of pet overpopulation," says Amy Williams, President of the Montana Animal Rescue League. This event is similar to the spay and neuter event held on April 1st and 2nd in Libby, hosted by Kootenai Pets for Life, the Montana Spay and Neuter Task Force, Lincoln County and the Montana Animal Rescue League, during which 196 animals were altered. "The impact figures in the months and years following these events show a significant decrease in the number of animals impounded and euthanized at the county shelters. In addition to helping to reduce the number of unwanted pets, which usually end up abandoned and outside suffering or euthanized at a county shelter, there are also health benefits from altering your pet, including a decreased risk of mammary cancer in females and testicular cancer in males," says Williams.

"The Lincoln County Commissioners were the first in Montana to support and help fund such programs. We encourage people to volunteer to work at this event or to become a sponsor," says Williams. To make an appointment for your pet or to volunteer, please call Ella at the Eureka Animal Shelter at 296-2627. Capacity for this program is limited, so appointments are on a first-come, first-serve basis. While there is no charge for this service, donations are appreciated, and will help keep the program available for others in the future. "The problem of pet overpopulation is worldwide, and this is an opportunity for residents of Lincoln County to help do their share in helping to reduce the number of unwanted pets. This is a community problem, and we want this to be a community event. We are always looking for sponsors and volunteers."

This event is being hosted by the Montana Animal Rescue League, the Montana Spay & Neuter Task Force and Lincoln County. For further information please contact Ella at 296-2627 or Amy at 261-4166.
