Campground

McGillivray Campground is located on the west side of Lake Koocanusa and has 50 camping units, a sandy beach swimming area, boat ramp to Lake Koocanusa, Campground Host, reservable day use area, and flush toilet restrooms.

McGillivray Campground is located on the west side of Lake Koocanusa on the Kootenai National Forest.Recreational Area Map. Click for larger image. It has 33 units and is open from mid May - October. This campground is managed by the Libby Ranger District. Campground use is heaviest in July and August.

This is one of the fanciest campgrounds on the Kootenai National Forest, built by the Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Lake Koocanusa/Libby Dam project.

Sandy Beach Picnic Area   The campground has a sandy beach swimming area, picnic tables, vault toilets, boat dock access to Lake Koocanusa, overnight camping area, and group picnic facilities which may be reserved. RVs up to 32' can be accommodated. Cut firewood is available. Restrooms have flush toilets with sinks.

Campground HostA Campground Host lives at McGillivray during the summer season. McGillivray is a fee campground with a stay limit of 14 days. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.

Directions:
McGillivray is approximately 23 miles from the town of Libby. From Libby, cross the Kootenai River on Hwy 37 and drive 13 miles east. Before crossing the Fisher River Bridge, turn left onto the Forest Development Road (FDR) and travel along the west side of the Kootenai River, past the Libby Dam, and another 10 miles along the FDR. Site is available for use, but facilities are offered during managed times only. Restrooms and water may not be available during winter months, but visitors can use facilities without fee. Roads are not plowed for winter access.

McGillivray has a Campground Host, volunteers who are there for your assistance.
* Group site reservations available at District Office; rates may vary

** Reservations for the group area can be taken by the Ranger Station only 3 days in advance of your stay or contact the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or www.recreation.gov.
Please call Libby Ranger District with questions regarding special needs, handicapp access, units that can accommodate long RVs, and adjoining sites for specific group needs.

Picnicking available at overnight campsites until 2 pm daily; designated areas also available.
14-day stay limit on all forest campgrounds.
Pets must be leashed.
