Ice Fishing Derbies by Maggie Craig January 9, 2026 Ice on area lakes is scarce but this angler managed to find a patch on Lower Thompson Lake on Friday, January 9. Derbies are scheduled throughout February, and sponsors are hoping for cold weather between now and then. The Bull Lake derby, sponsored by Halfway House Bar and Grill, is scheduled for February 7-8. $25 entry fee. Visit Halfway House Bar and Grill Facebook page for ice updates. Fisher River Valley Fire/Rescue Auxiliary derby on the Thompson Chain of Lakes is planned for February 14-15. Door prizes, auctions and first, second and third place prizes for adults and kids for rainbow trout, pike, perch and salmon. Tickets are on sale at Happy's Inn, Libby Sports Center, Snappy's, and Chancy & Dave's Fish Camp. Entry tickets are $20. Find more info here on Facebook. The Lodge at McGregor Lake has its derby scheduled for February 21-22. Tickets are $20, available at the Lodge.
